POSITION OVERVIEW
The UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) focuses on making public and private finance work for the poor in the world’s 46 least developed countries. We use finance models to unlock resources for poverty reduction and local economic development. UNCDF manages the CookFund, a key component of Tanzania’s Sustainable Cooking Solutions Programme, which is supported by the EU and the Tanzanian Government.
As part of the CookFund, the Investment Officer will play a key role in managing investments, project development, and financing under the direct supervision of the CookFund Programme Manager in Dar es Salaam.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Project Development & Structuring: Support investment identification, data analysis, and preparation of information memoranda for investment review.
- Financial Modeling: Build and manage financial models for renewable energy, SMEs, and public-private infrastructure projects.
- Stakeholder Interaction: Collaborate with central/local government officials, private sector banks, equity investors, and development partners.
- Investment Support: Provide investment-related technical services, including feasibility reviews, business plan development, and transaction structuring.
- Portfolio Management: Guide the planning, budgeting, and reporting processes, ensuring timely project progress.
- Capacity Building: Support capacity development initiatives, training, and knowledge sharing to enhance stakeholders’ understanding of investment processes.
- Outreach & Communication: Organize outreach activities with various stakeholders and establish co-financing relationships with debt providers and equity investors.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Education:
- Advanced university degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Investments, or Business Administration.
- Bachelor’s degree holders with 2 additional years of experience may also apply.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years (with Master’s) or 4 years (with Bachelor’s) of relevant experience in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Investments.
- Experience in project finance, commercial debt, or investment recommendations.
- Demonstrated experience in complex financial modeling and investment structuring.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong problem-solving and financial analysis skills.
- Ability to communicate complex financial concepts effectively.
- Experience engaging multiple stakeholders and project sponsors.
- Knowledge of clean energy financing is a plus.
- Language Requirement:
- Fluency in English and Swahili is required.
- French is an added advantage.
- Professional Certifications:
- CFA, CPA, ACCA, or equivalent certifications are preferred.
